Sale of The British North American Stamps
Of William H. Gross
In New York City

Bill Gross continues his acts of generosity in ways that bring great credit to both himself and the philatelic community. Not only does he take great care in buying only the finest stamps of each country in which he takes an interest, but on selling a number of his collections, he has donated the entire proceeds to charity. We may be dreaming, but if all collectors were in a position to follow his example, we would definitely have a better world.

Back in 2007, we reviewed the sale of his outstanding UK stamp collection. Please click here to see our comments at that time. The proceeds from that sale of over U.S. $9 million were donated by him to Médecins Sans Frontières.

This sale is reported to have realized U.S. $1.9 million with the proceeds being given to the Smithsonian National Postal Museum. This should make it a far more interesting place to visit in future as they use the above proceeds and other major gifts from Bill to expand the museum.
