The Brigham Collection of Canada

Part I- Large Queens

The long-awaited series of sales of the well-known Canadian stamp collection of Mr. Ron Brigham has at last begun. According to reports, this first auction will be one of a number of auctions taking place over the next year.

Housed in over 150 volumes, the full collection took Mr. Brigham over 35 years to build. Collectors and dealers across the country were aware of his passion for collecting only the best. Now we will have the pleasure of seeing the results.

The auction of Part 1 of the collection took place on February 22nd at the Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel in Mississauga. It must have been an exciting day for those attending, judging from the rarity and quality of the material. The prices were strong resulting in 32 new records, including of course, the $475,000 paid for the 2¢ Large Queen on laid paper, shown below.

We present a sampling of the outstanding stamps that appeared at the auction together with the prices they attracted.

We must compliment Ron Brigham for what he has achieved over the decades in collecting nothing but the best. We should also acknowledge the great team he put together with Charles Verge, Tracy Shreve, Maxime Herold and Rick Sheryer. They all did a superb job of organizing the auction and presenting it. The results speak for themselves.
