Report No. 6 - 9 April, 2000

Jim A. Hennok's Upcoming Auction 22 April, 2000

One usually associates Jim Hennok's sales with lots of postal history and stamps with fancy cancellations.  These are stamps of the used variety.  However, every once in a while Jim has some stamps of the mint variety which are real gems.

We note some examples of this in his latest auction which will be held at his premises on Queen Street in Toronto on 22 April:

Lot 669
Hennok Lot 669
Scott 79a
5¢ Numeral imperf pair.  VF NH Scott cat. value $1125
According to our records, no copies of this pair, with gum or NH, has been sold in Canada at public auction since 1991.  This item should attract some considerable interest.(Realised $1,400)
Lot 671
Hennok Lot 671
Scott 83a
10¢ Numeral imperf. pair.  VF LH  Scott cat. value $750
This pair has appeared at auction with gum more frequently since 1991, (i.e.: three times), according to our records.(Realised $550)
Lot 691
Hennok Lot 691

Scott 115a
8¢ Admiral imperf. pair VF NH  Scott cat. value $1,500
This lot was shown in the catalogue picture as Lot No. 611 by mistake.  The pair was last offered in investment quality, according to our records, in NH condition in 1996.  In that year, it sold for $800.  Today the Admiral set is very popular and, accordingly, we expect to see a price realised much closed to the catalogue value.  (Realised $1,800)

We'll be posting the actual realised prices as soon as possible after the auction.(See prices realised above as reported by Jim Hennok)

There are many other fine stamps in the sale, including a number of higher value Great Britain.

Jim has started using the larger style of catalogue, similar to that recently adopted by Bill Maresch.

We would welcome your comments on this and any other matter relating to Stamps in Canada.
