Small Queens with Big Borders

In one of our recent commentaries we reviewed the prices realized for a number of early Canadian stamps with large borders that did particularly well at auction. Well centered stamps with these borders are much sought after. Collectors seem to lose their normal caution when bidding; in fact they can totally lose their common sense. And if this can happen to Canadian collectors, we’ve seen ones south of the border out bid each other to a far greater degree. We often wonder what it must be like the next morning when they realize what they actually did at auction the night before. Do we blame them…not a bit!

Here’s a brief report that focuses on stamps in the Small Queen set with large borders. We hope you will enjoy the details that follow.

The catalogue prices are those in effect at the time of the sale as are the currency conversion rates between the U.S. and Canadian dollars.
